About

Connor Larkin is a Toronto-based visual artist and writer who is currently attending OCAD University, with a major in Printmaking and Publications. His work focuses on personal experience, and the lenses through which we perceive and navigate the world.

Using a combination of intense geometry and organic forms in his linework, he explores concepts such as dreams, the waking experience, and qualia as a whole; the experiences that, while we may have them alone, we share with each otherare shaped by. He is currently working on a series of micron drawings examining these concepts, with Here, Now, and Untitled being the first of five.

In his various printmaking practices, he explores and attempts to make tangible that which we can’t see, and explores memory, both personal and as a broad concept. Using screenprinting and intaglio primarily, he experiments with the idea of permanency and the notion of using a medium centred around the reproduction of an image fluidly, most often making limited varied editions rather than straight editions of perfect reproductions to explore permanency, the fallibility of our minds, and how the things we create can reflect those flaws.

In his painting, he focuses on form and texture, using abstract shapes, stains, and structured surfaces to convey emotion and atmosphere. His paintings usually begin before the paint is even mixed; by working with the application of the base layer of gesso, he builds a thick landscape to which he can apply gentle layers of stains, play with brushstrokes, and explore how water and motion interact with the structure of the painting.

Connor also works in sculpture, bookbinding, and written word, and is currently working on a novel. He aims to explore as many mediums as possible, with a focus on analogue, so he may expand his toolbox and use whatever suits his concept best to bring it into reality.
